EMAIL 8/22/13 OUT A MONTH!!

OOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHH...CHECK OUT THE COCKROACH!  ID BE RUNNING FOR COVER!  On a better note..The beautiful Mexico City Temple and wonderful missionaries!  I CANT BELIEVE SHE'S BEEN OUT A MONTH!!  On to thoughts from Hermana Maxwell...

This past week has been insane!!!!!! We got two new "investigators", Jeremiah and Carlos.  We already teach Damian and Jose so things are pretty crazy! We are always constantly teaching which is awesome practice.  The temple was AMAZING. I'll definitely send a few pics! we had to drive through mexico city for like an hour to get there. We were kind of "consumed" by the worldliness of the city per say... and then the MOMENT we drove through those gates the spirit hit us like a ton of bricks. it was so ammmmazzzinnng.  The Mexico City temple is absolutely gorgeous!! We were only able to take pictures for 10 minutes so that was kind of stressful but It was fantastic. The session was stellar too! It was all in spanish obviously but I was really really surprised at how much I understood!! And in case you were wondering.. there ARE the sweet little old lady temple workers EVEN in Mexico :) except they are a lot smaller and dont speak your language haha :) One lady that helped me was like two heads shorter than I was haha. probably like almost brynnas height. She was so nice!! It really felt like home to me... the same spirit that is there is in the temples back home and it was so nice to visit the house of GOD!!! One thing about temples that I heard is that in every temple you are literally walking where Christ has walked. He walks through the halls of those temples. Esta magnifico no?? The celestial room was awesome as well, I could really feel the spirits of those that had gone before me in the room.  There were definitely some funny moments just because we didnt really know what we were doing and it was all in espanol but I absolutely loved it. I cant wait to go back again next week!
So before I forget on lds.org there is a news story about the mexico mtc!! you should check it out!! you can totally see my companion AND my arm in the cafeteria scene :) (she is in purple) but a bunch of my friends got interviewed for it as well so pretty sweet!
Over the past week we have had 2 more earthquakes!! They are always really small but its fun to get out of class for a few minutes haha. The latinas in our room are already gone! I´ll send a picture of them too. They were so amazing! I miss them! We are back to being the only ones in our room which is kinda sad but nice because of showering and stuff. For gym time we always play ultimate frisbee, basketball, soccer, and volleyball with the elders! its definitely one of the highlights of my day!! both me and my companion hold our own :) the elders are really impressed with us haha. I seriously love my district!! its going to be really hard to leave them. We spend all day with each other so we are all really tight.  All of the girls in my casa are leaving on Monday/tuesday :( :( Its going to be so sad!!! and then WE are next!!! Cant even believe how fast its gone!! Im so excited to get out into the field and do this stuff for real though!!! I absolutely love the MTC now... well.. most of the time haha. But its really an incredible  place to be!! Our lesons our going so much better... one particular one I want to talk about was with one of the native teachers named Hermano Flores. He pulled me and my comp out of class and told us we had to teach him right then and there with no preparation.. he played the part of a catholic man who had a lot of doubts about our church. Needless to say it went AMAZING. We taught completely by the spirit and our Spanish was STELLAR. :) He even said he would be baptized!! First visit... oh yeah. haha but I rea,lly actually love teaching now. At first I hated it.. just because it took so much preparation but now its actually really fun!!
So one of the biggest pieces of news... totally got food poisioning two nights ago. YEAH. worst night of my entire life. I´ll spare you the details but lets just say I feel like I have lost like 15 lbs from the ordeal haha. I only got one hour of sleep that night.... just think of the scene from dumb and dumber. that was totally me hahahaha. AWFUL. But it turns out 6/10 girls in our casa had the exact same experience and lots of other missionaries got it too! Its not very surprising that we all got sick considering yesterday an elder found a ginormous cockroach in the beans yesterday!!! super sketchy food here... but not too bad.  I seriously wanted to die though. literally wanted to die. then i was sick the whole next day(yesterday) but today I feel just fine!! So luckily it was over quick. PRAY that that doesnt happen to me again!! it was terrrrrrible. Cant wait to get back to the states and be able to eat without worrying that the food might make me want to commit suicide haha. jk. Speaking of cockroaches though.. we didnt see any until this last week and now all of a sudden its attack of the giant cockroaches!! They are soooo disgusting. They dont even compare to the little tiny ones in st george haha and they are FAST. Totally freeeak me out. I´ll send a picture of one of the ones we found in our casa..
Lets see what else.... just lovin the life of a sister missionary!!! testimony is growing every day!! the devotionals here are completely incredible. I wish i had the time to go over everything ive learned but that would take like 50 years haha. but its funny that you mentioned that when christ went to go get the lost sheep he carried it on its shoulders! we totally had a devotional where a seventy mentioned that too! MUST be important huh? :) Its true though.. as missionaries we arent supposed to "herd" people into the church. We are supposed to carry them. Lift their burdens upon our own shoulders and help them every step of the way.  Its an incredible feeling to stand in the shoes of Christ. Every time we go into TRC as soon as the person tells me their name i am just completely overcome with gods love for that person!! before i even know them.  Its so awesome. Heavenly father has such a deep and personal love for all of us. he knows everything about us and he is literally our father! my prayers have become  a lot more personal and i feel like I really am talking to my father. my FATHER.  he lives and he IS THERE!!!
Sounds like home is fantabulous!! I love the pictures of the hummingbird and salamander!! JEALOUS!!!! I´m sorry you are all so busy! just make sure to take time and enjoy the litttle moments because they are the ones that bring us the most happiness! Sometimes thats hard... but its worth a try! I LOVE YOU GUYS so freaking much!!! oops.. flippin much... sorry mom ;) Families are eternal and there isnt one that I would rather spend eternity with more than ours :) Keep the faith! and do missionary work at home!! it brings many blessings :) i know you are being blessed for my service and know that i am HAPPY here!! this is literally the work of god. its his mission, not mine. And I am stoked to be a part of it!! Hurrah for Israel!!

EMAIL 8/15/13 MCKENNA TURNS 21 WEEK 3

MCKENNA TURNED 21 AUG. 14TH!  Where has the time gone?! It seems like just yesterday we were anticipating her arrival and flash forward she is all grown up..is a beautiful young woman inside and out and is serving her Savior.  We are so proud of her and all she has become!!  Thank you to all who were so kind to her in the CCM/MTC !  Below are some cute photos of the girls helping McKenna celebrate 21 as well as some new MTC photos.

Here are some of McKenna's words about week 3:
Thanks to everyone for all the birthday wishes!!! It meant so much to me.  It was a little hard to not have my birthday at home.. but it actually turned out to be reeeealllyyyy good!
As you are very well aware, unfortunately it takes forever and a half for letters to get here... so I would suggest telling everyone to start sending letters to the mission home address and Ill receive them when I get there! This week has totally flew by!!! Seriously I feel like it was Sunday yesterday.  I AM MORE THAN HALFWAY DONE WITH THE CCM!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWW!!!!!!! can you believe that?? it seriously feels like I just got here.. well sort of. At the same time its gone by super slow and I feel like my mission is half over haha.  But yeah its exciting! We hit the halfway mark on tuesday!! I am having fun as well as working hard!! Mostly working hard... but there is some fun here and there as well ;) you know me.. i always have a little fun ;)
This afternoon we get to go to the MEXICO CITY TEMPLE!!!!!!! AHHHHHHH!!!!!!! I GET TO LEAVE THE "BUBBLE"!!!!!!!!!! im so stoked :) It should be interesting in all Espanol... but I seriously cant even wait.  Its gonna be awesome.  I wish I could see the new video though!! They dont have it translated into spanish yet is my understanding.  This past week has been really good! We committed our second "investigator" to baptism on September 1st! WOOT!! we teach ALL the time here.  I think I told you about TRC in the last email... but we got to do that again on my bday and it actually went awesome. Although i still couldnt understand half the words this sweet member was telling us... the spirit was DEFINITELY there and she TOTALLY started crying :) I think she really needed our message!! It was fabulous. :) Other than my birthday stuff nothing much exciting as happened. Just lots and lots and lots of sitting in class!!! But im such good friends with my district now.. we are practically family so its really fun. A lot of them are sick.. I cant believe I havent gotten sick!! im so blessed!! Our poor district leader has just been a mess.. its pretty bad. They thought he had a parasite but it turns out he doesnt! So who knows whats going on... not good. He is alright but the symptoms are just awful.. ill spare you the details haha.
My birthday was fantastic!!!! My casa 9 girls decorated the doorway for me, I got sung to 11 times!!! At dinner my district, our "rival" district, the peru trio, the twins, etc all gathered around me and screamed/sang happy birthday to me in spanish haha. So im pretty sure the ENTIRE CCM knew it was my birthday yesterday!!! THEN i came home to find a cute note a bracelet and chocolate kisses on my bed from our Latina roommates (who dont speak any english btw) it was flippin adorable. They walked in and I gave them a huge hug and they kissed me on the cheek (custom here.. so its not weird ;)) I seriously LOVE them. Then as I was writing in my journal all of my casa sistas ran in my room and sang happy birthday and then gave me the first clue to this epic scavenger hunt!! The last one led me to the closet where we all took pictures (see picture) :) and inside was a bunch of candy, a note from all of them, root "BEER" and chocolate "SHOTS" as well as a conference talk haha!!! Such is the bday of a 21 year old hermana!!! It was so awesome. Made me cry.. I just love them all so much. It totally made my birthday!!!
Lets see what else... the sunsets here are GORGEOUS. Cant capture it with a picture but Ill send ya one!! Tell Roger hi for me!! I doubt he will even remember me but thats exciting that he is home!! Where did he serve again?? Sounds like everything is going awesome at home!! im glad Brynna is feeling better!!!! I just love you all more than you have any idea!! this church is so true!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I love being a missionary ;) Its so fun to wake up and put on that name tag every morning and know that Im literally standing in Christ's shoes!! its a lot of pressure... Jeffrey r. holland said that we have to be the best missionaries this world has every seen... so yeah pressure. plus Hmo. Keller (my mtc maestro) puts a ton of pressure on me and hma wheelwright to be examples for the district. Its tough but awesome!!! Well I better run... but just know that this gospel is true and that we are SO freaking blessed to have had it our whole lives!! I cant imagine life without it!!! Our savior knows everything we go through.. including how tough a mission is. And im learning to rely on him more and more!!! (holy cow im getting like carpal tunnel right now haha) I LOVE YOU!!!!!!! Till next time!!!

From Mom...Because life is so crazy I'm a little behind updating the blog....so tomorrow we get another email!! I cant wait!! We love her...we miss her, but we know she is doing the Lord's work!

WEEK 2 ** EMAIL # 3

As you can see McKenna is still McKenna!  We miss her humor in our home!! The following is excerpts from her last email:

Things are still going great here at the CCM!!! Its still hard.. but wonderful :) the other day we totally had a mini earthquake here. We were in class and all of a sudden an alarm went off and we all ran outside and a lady came and told us there was an earthquake haha. we didnt even feel it. but it was still cool!!! There was also the biggest rainstorm i have ever seen in my whole life!! we had to run to a devotional in it haha. Sister Pratt (mtc presidents wife) said she wish she had been videoing the 500 missionaries racing to the devotional in a hurricane haha. we were literally running through an inch of water the whole time. it was nuts. i wish i could have videod it!!! Last night me and my companion got some Latinas in our apartment who speak ZERO english!!! so that will be interesting!! we havent really gotten the chance to talk with them yet.. but i have no doubt thats going to help with my espanol!! Also yesterday we had our first TRC session. its where members/investigators come in and volunteer to have us teach them. Talk about scary!! I couldn´t understand half of what the lady said because she talked so fast but the spirit was there so thats really all that matters haha.  We are juggling two "investigators" at the moment. They are really just teachers that act like someone they taught on their missions but it is still really good practice with teaching! The spanish is coming along purty swell... although I dont really know all the grammar rules or anything that ISNT about the gospel haha. But I know it will come!! Next p-day we get to go to the Mexico City temple!! I am so beyond stoked!!! it looks so pretty!!! im a bit nervous because it will all be in spanish but i have heard its one of the coolest experiences ever.  And i did hear about the new temple video!! im excited to see it!!! The ccm is getting sooo crowded. its at full capacity right now and we just found out that the Peru (DALLON?!!) and argentina mtcs are overflowing so they are sending all the missionaries HERE next week. cant even believe it. the lunchroom is gonna be nuts!!! its already ridiculous!! but its definitely exciting... the lord is hastening is work!! The church is true!! as Elder Holland said "this truly is an exciting time to be a missionary!" I really am starting to love it here.  there isnt another place like this on the whole planet. its almost like we are living in this little missionary bubble!! mexico city is so wordly and hectic but just inside the gates of the mtc its like we are walking alongside angels.  The food is either getting better or i'm just getting used to it haha. I've learned to just shove everything into a tortilla and hope for the best!! :)

FIRST WEEK EMAIL #2

MI FAMILIA!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh my gosh how I miss all of you!!! First of all know i dont have tons of time.. in fact like no time at all so this email might be filled with mistakes and stuff that doesnt make sense so im sorry!! but primero, some business items haha.  I think i told you that the address on the packet was a different one than they gave us already... but here is the new one.  i think the letters will still get to us but have everyone send them here from now on:
Carr. Tenayuca-Chalmita No. 828,
Col. Zona Escolar, Deleg. G.A. Madero,
C.P. 07230, Mexico, D.F.; Mexico
Did you get my letter?? i sent one.. you probably have it by now hopefully. But mom could you please post this new address and my email on facebook so that people can email me?? you guys have no idea how much an email or a letter means on a mission. like i have been looking forward to this p-day for what feels like eternity.  Also letters take quite awhile to get here.. like 2 weeks :( so i havent gotten anything yet if you sent anything.  Also please send the family pictures if you have them!! or any pictures for that matter in a letter because i miss seeing your faces!! the wallet ones werent enough haha.  Also i need the addresses for Bishop Fullmer, scadlocks, gunns, steve and sandra, the weeds, the grays, the wildings, grandma suz. and grap rob. so that i can send them the thank you cards!! thanks so much for all you do it means more than you know!!
OK. so the CCM is insane!!!!!! I dont even know where to begin. It is definitely hard, dallon, prepare for HARD. but it is also INCREDIBLE being able to learn about the gospel 24/7. actually its mostly spanish that is the hard part!!! we had to teach someone in all spanish the third day we were here!!! our "investigator" is Armando. its actually one of the teachers here but they play the part of someone they taught on their mission so its like its real! we committed him to baptism last night!! YAY!!!!!!! the campus is gorggggeeouuus. there are palm trees everywhere and little birds all over the place that attack us haha. but they are so cute! there is one that hangs out on our front lawn and we named him Fredrico!! I seriously love it... we are in the world but completely out of it. there is barbed wire around the outside and security guards haha. mom dont be scared.. but we hear gunshots and sirens all the time haha. Mexico city is just crazy. ill send a couple pictures but youll have to wait till the sd card to see most of them which wont be for awhile!!
I love my companion!! her name is Hermana Wheelwright and she is from ogden. she is like a proffessional soccer player and super fun. we have lots of good times together but we also know how to work!! she has been getting super homesick though so thats kind of hard. but we are already suuuper good friends!!! that tends to happen when you spend every second of the day with each other. but yeah she is awesome. i also love my district! we are the only hermanas and then there are 4 sets of elders!! they are ALL 18. so young. and so immature haha but they have insane testimonies. i am constantly super impressed with them and i love them tons. they are like my little brothers!! we spend so much time together we are all way good friends. i also love my teacher elder keller, he served in spain dad!! he is wayy nice.
the food is... haha exciting? i guess that could be the word. its very authentic most of the time lets just say. diarrhea and all haha. but im getting used to it! occasionally they try to serve us american food but none of them speak english and they just dont know how haha. like they made waffles one time and they dont give us syrup.. they give us chocolate syrup and raspberry syrup haha. which isnt terrible i guess but not super awesome either.  most of the food is fine though! Its actually pretty good. it just looks scary :) ive learned to just put stuff in a tortilla and eat it haha. at first i starved a.k.a. ate cereal every meal.. but now i eat everything they throw at me haha. the water also is way bad. luckily we have water bottles with filters so its ok! no worries! elder thompson got way sick.. they thought he had a parasite but we think it was just the water. he is ok now luckily!!
my favorite time of the day is definitely gym!! me and my companion play sports with the elders. we are like the only girls that do haha! but its way fun although i practically tore all the skin of my kneecap playing basketball haha. the devotionals here are crazy good too. we had a seventy come and speak to us on tuesday which was awesome!! we also get to watch a church movie in the auditorium on sunday nights!! best thing EVER! its so hard not being able to listen to music... im dying haha.
the hardest part is definitely SPANISH!!!! oh my gosh. they never speak english to us and its just soooo difficult to learn everything so fast! but i am learning and I know ill get better at it!! pray for me haha!! but we are in classes literally all day. i thought it would be really rough but it actually hasnt been too bad. there are definitely hard moments but overall its been really good and i love it here!! i mean it is the mtc.. there a very hard times. but also reallly really good times as well.
So next time before i email im definitely going to make bullet points to talk about before i email because i dont have time to go through my journal and tell you everything!! But just know that heavenly is taking care of me! and everything is great!! i love you all more than you have any idea and please email email email and write write write!! i seriously depend on these things!!! This church is true!!!!!!!!!!! it really is. Yo se que este evangelio es verdadero y que jesucristo vive. el es mi redentor y mi salvador. nuestro padre celestial nos ama y el libro de mormon contener las palabras de dios!!!!! I ran out of time.. so gotta go but ill talk to you guys next thursday!! I LOVE YOU!! and im glad the funeral went well! next time ill try to address you all individually!! just dont have time this time!!!! LLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEE YYYYYYYYYYYOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

hermana maxwell

p.s. my calf totally cramped up the other night for like 5 minutes straight.. thought i was gonna die haha (random thought)
also I have limited email time.. technically i could cheat and get more but im trying to be obedient... so sorry if i cant get to everyone
